Last Post - Feelings, Aspirations

I think this will be my last blog post this year.  School ends on Tuesday!  I will be going to Highlands Intermediate next year.    I am excited, and nervous.  I am not totally sure what I want to do when I am older.  Some of my ideas are to be a piano teacher, piano composer, or a doctor.

For the end-of-year assembly I get to read my speech I wrote for the end-of-year assembly.  Here is a copy of my speech.  In my speech I acknowledge and thank some of the teachers that have helped me, I give a piece of advice to the year 5's-next year's year 6's, and I talk about some of the experiences the year 6's have had this year.  Remember that I don't mention all of the teachers that have helped me through my years here at Frankley.
Thank you to all of the people that have commented and helped with my blogging. If you have quesetions or comments I would like you to comment in the comment bar below. If you haven't been recieving my replies to your comments, trying ticking a box that says 'Sent me follow up comments on this blog post'. Thank you for your support, Mercy

My IKAN Success

Today we did the IKAN test.  (The IKAN test is a maths test.  It goes quite quickly so you don't normally have tome to figure it out, you just have to know it.)
The boxes that are blue I got everything right in. I am happy with how I did on the IKAN today.

All About Me

As a class we made google drawings with pictures that showed a part of our personality or one of our hobbies. If you hover over the cirles it will say explain why I put that picture on my All About Me. Here is mine. If you have any comments/questions I would like a comment.

Super SLC

On Tuesday I had my Student Led Conference (S.L.C.).  My mom, dad, little sisters, and friends from Germany came.  I really enjoyed it, and felt like I got to share all the things I wanted to.  This is a picture of me explaining my oline tracking.

My Writing Goal

My writing goal for the past term has been to write different genres of writing.  On this google doc, I have told you what genre of writing it is, what the title of the writing is, and I put in a link to the piece of writing.

If you read any or all of the pieces of writing, I would appreciate a comment.

Questions

As a class we got a task and were told to write 5 questions that would help us find the information it asks for in the task.  This is the task:

Frankie the duck has turned up at Frankley School. He appeared a few weeks ago and is now here everyday. He has made our school his new home!

Frankie seems very tame and is getting friendlier each week he stays. We need to make sure that Frankie stays happy and healthy. He has special requirements to keep him in optimum health, prevent him from getting diseases and ensure he has the proper diet his particular species should have.

We also need to know that Frankie will not harm or bother staff or students. We must make sure that Frankie does not pose a health hazard to us, spread diseases and that our grounds stay clean from his waste.

Write 5 good questions that we need to ask to help us make sure of this.

These are my 5 questions:

What are the  special requirements that need to happen to keep Frankie, a duck that has made Frankley School his home, from getting diseases and in optimum health, and how can we help Frankie meet those special requirements?

How can we ensure that Frankie, a duck that has made Frankley School his home, has a proper diet for his/her particular species, and that he/her gets all he/her needs to live that diet?

How can we ensure that Frankie, a duck that has made Frankley School his home, will not harm or bother staff or pupils of Frankley School, and that Frankie is not a health hazard to us?

How can we ensure that Frankie, a duck that has made Frankey School his new home, will not spread diseases, and that our school grounds will stay clean from his waste?

How can we make sure that Frankie, a duck that has made Frankley School its new home, will stay happy and healthy?

The teachers rated the questions looking at the question waka. The are marked as effective questions if they are stages 3-7. When we write questions we try to get a range of questions between 3 and 7.

3= Asking 'yes', 'no', 'maybe' questions
4= Using the seven servants and key words.
5= Using the seven servants, key words and key phrases.
6= Using the seven servants and synonyms of key words.
7= Probing questions using two or more question words when interviewing a person.

Most of the time when you are writing you try not to only do one of the stages, especially 3. If you only yes/no questions it would be hard to get information.

Fact or Fiction?

On the first day back after the school holidays, Mrs. Parkes had us write a story about what we did in the holidays.  But there was a twist to it.  We could make our story completely true, partly true and partly made up, or totally fiction (made up).

After reading that do you think it is fact, fiction, or part of both?  Answer in the comments, and I can tell you if you’re right.
